LiveWire

LiveWIRE was launched in 1982 in Scotland and has evolved from a written and paper based enquiry, business skills support and annual award programme to a web-based programme raising awareness of the option of business start-up as a viable career choice amongst the16 – 32 age group. The Annual Awards is an event, which recognizes successful young people running their own business and uses these young people as role models for others. Over the years the programme has grown and there are currently 23 LiveWIRE programmes operating around the world. The geographical spread covers South America, Europe, Africa, Asia and the Middle East (Oman, Abu Dhabi and Egypt). The programme has grown into one of Shell’s flagship social investment programmes. Shell invests in such programmes because it believes that this helps to build more sustainable communities in which to operate. Shell takes a holistic view of business, which benefits not only the company but also its employees, customers, suppliers, the local communities and ultimately the shareholders. Intilaaqah which means rapid “take off” in Arabic is the regional name for LiveWIRE.
